Our Recommendation

Victor is a well-known name when it comes to premium dog food. It is in that class of premium dog foods that offers a great combination of meaty flavor, healthier grains, and natural vitamins and minerals but is affordable for the average person even if they are feeding a large dog.

  • 78% of all the protein in this formula comes from meat and poultry sources.
  • Excellent value for your dollar; this is quality dog food at an approachable price.
  • No corn, wheat, soy, or gluten so dogs with allergies can rejoice!
  • Easy digestion formula is ideal for dogs that have stomach complaints on a regular basis.
  • The formula is appropriate even for puppies, pregnant and nursing females, and highly active dogs.
  • Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids help with skin, coat, and joint and hip health.
  • Probiotics for easy digestion.
  • Kelp adds a natural source of vitamins and minerals.

Over the years I have heard a lot of other pet parents rave about how well their dog does on any of the Victor formulas. I recommend this dog food for any dog parent that wants the best for their dog.

Nutritional Analysis

Pet food ingredients, nutritional values, and the way they are labeled for consumers are monitored by several organizations in the United States including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the NGO, Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO).

Each year the AAFCO publishes two sets of nutritional minimum standards for dog food intended to help specify if a food is suitable for:

1. Dogs in the growth & reproduction phases of life
2. Adult dogs maintaining a healthy weight and activity level

Caloric Content

Feeding Amounts

Depending on your dog’s size and activity level, they may need more or less food in their daily feeding amounts.

Weight Daily Feeding (Cups)
_______________________ _______________________
10 LBS 1
20 LBS 1 1/4
30 LBS 1 3/4
40 LBS 2 1/2
60 LBS 3 1/4
80 LBS 3 3/4
100 LBS 4 1/2
Over 100 LBS 4 1/2 plus 1/2 for each 20 lbs over 100 lbs

Puppies

Allow puppies to start nibbling on food as soon as they are ready. Put out as much food as they can eat in a 20 minute time period. Make sure when feeding litters to distribute kibble out widely enough to reduce competition. Puppies may eat three times the amount or more than is listed in the feeding guidelines table.

Pregnant or Nursing Dogs

A pregnant or nursing female may eat up to four times as much as the feeding chart indicates for their body weight. Generally speaking, allow pregnant and nursing dogs to eat three times per day for 20 minutes each time. The needs of pregnant and nursing dogs will vary depending on where they are at in pregnancy and how many puppies they are nursing. Adjust feeding as needed to maintain a good body weight and health

Transitioning

Transition your dog from their regular kibble by replacing their food with Victor over 5-7 days. Very sensitive dogs can be transitioned over 10 days.

The Bottom Line

Victor truly cares about the health of your dog. This balanced protein and carbohydrate formula is great for those that have a lot of dogs with different needs. It is well tolerated by dogs with allergies or sensitive stomachs. I like that Victor adds in ingredients like probiotics and kelp so I don’t have to do that myself. In terms of value, there are a lot of dog foods out there that cost a lot more and don’t offer this level of quality and care to your dog. Victor has a lot of formulas in their line of premium dog foods so there is something for dogs no matter what stage of life they are at.
