Adirondack Dog Food Review & Recall

Our Recommendation

Adirondack High-Fat Puppy & Performance Recipe Dog food offers a balanced diet for highly active and growing puppies. Those with working dog puppies and hunting dog puppies can benefit from giving their dog this quality puppy formula. Adirondack uses the best quality ingredients to help your puppy excel and thrive on every level.

  • Chicken meal offers the protein your puppy needs to develop strong muscles and maintain a healthy level of muscle mass throughout their growth.
  • Brown rice is a healthier alternative to white rice.
  • Fish meal and oil add valuable Omega 3- and 6 fatty acids for healthy skin and coat.
  • Brewers yeast helps breeds that are prone to skin allergies.
  • Organic dried kelp offers essential trace minerals and nutrients for enhanced immunity.
  • Probiotics help maintain a healthy flora of bacteria for easy digestion and maximum nutrient absorption.

Scout recommends this puppy food for very active puppies and working dogs that need an extra boost. Average activity level puppies should be fed a lower fat dog food. If your puppy is not gaining weight fast enough this is a puppy food that can help. Just be careful and monitor weight gain. A high fat diet is not suitable for less active puppies regardless of how delicious they find it.

Puppy Feeding Instructions

Many pet parents choose to allow puppies free choice so they can eat whenever they feel the need. If you want to be more in control of your puppy’s eating then offer them food multiple times through out the day. The needs of a puppy can vary greatly based on breed, activity level,  temperature, and growth stage. The feeding chart above is a range that many puppies do well on but you should always pay attention to your puppy and adjust feeding amounts and frequency as needed.

Transitioning Puppies To A Different Food

Any food transition should be done over time. Puppies that are eating other brands should gradually have their food replaced with Adirondack over 5-7 days. Some puppies are ok with a sudden diet change but it is best to be safe. If you just bought your puppy home from a breeder or shelter and cannot gradually change them over then start out with a smaller portion of new dog food. Several small meals is better than your puppy getting too excited and eating a lot of a new food too fast.

The Bottom Line

Adirondack High Fat Puppy is recommended for active and growing puppies. This food offers a well-balanced diet and a lot of meaty flavors that puppies love. I like that Adirondack adds kelp and probiotics to this food to help puppies get a better level of essential and trace minerals and increase nutrient absorption by offering digestive support. Good levels of Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids from ingredients such as fish meal and oil helps decrease the incidence of skin allergies in puppies. Fish also provides DHA which helps with brain development so your puppy grows up to be as smart as they can!
