American Journey Grain-Free Canned Dog Food Review

American Journey Grain-Free Canned Dog Food Review

Our Recommendation

American Journey is a new brand to pet parents but that should not hold them back from trying out any of their formulas. Just for the record, American Journey is only available through Chewy. The brand is their own and it is available for a good introductory price. When one considers the ingredients, even at the full cost this is a reasonable canned dog food for those seeking a grain-free brand.

This review covers the 12 can mixed case of chicken and vegetable or beef and vegetable. A single can is several meals for a smaller dog so having a variety pack helps alleviate the boredom of getting the same ration every day. This is also an excellent choice for those that are looking for an affordable topping for kibble or an occasional extra treat in place of some regular kibble.

Like all canned dog foods, they are intended for smaller dogs due to the cost or as a small portion of the diet of a larger dog.

  • No artificial colors or flavors.
  • Real meat and broth are the first ingredients.
  • Variety of veggies creates a more balanced and tasty diet for your dog.
  • Fast and easy purchase and delivery. There are additional savings offered for auto deliveries.
  • Suitable for all dogs but it is important to remember to increase feeding amounts for puppies and pregnant or nursing females.
  • Two flavors offer almost the same nutritional profile except for the calorie count. Chicken and vegetable has about 50 fewer calories per can so it may be more suitable for dogs that are struggling with weight.

Feeding Instructions

Transition Instructions

Over 7-14 days, gradually replace your current dog food with American Journey. Remember that some dogs do best with a mix of canned and dry dog foods. The important thing to remember is to make sure total calories consumed are equal to what you were feeding your dog before unless weight loss or gain is desired.

Feeding Amounts

Adult: Feed 1 to 1 1/2 cans per 15 lbs of body weight per day.

Puppy: Feed up to twice the adult amount per day.

Gestation & Lactation: Feed up to three times the adult amount per day.

The Bottom Line

American Journey Canned Grain Free Dog Food is a good example of how good a store brand or generic brand can be if the company really cares about dogs and wants to offer pet parent’s a good value. This food is great for topping off dry kibble or feeding picky eaters.
