Our Recommendation
The ingredients in this formula are impressive right from the start. When meat is the first ingredient, you should automatically take note because that means that you aren’t paying for your dog to eat cheap herbicide-laden corn.
Health Extension is not a brand a lot of pet parents have heard of but they seem to be trying to create a balanced grain-free dog food at a mid-range price point. I like that they include lots of fruits and veggies in the mix. While there are some potatoes in there which some consider cheap filler, potatoes are fairly far down the list of ingredients.
- No artificial colors or flavors.
- No corn, wheat, or soy.
- Probiotics and pumpkin help with digestion which makes this dog food more suitable for even sensitive dogs or those that have allergies.
- Good source of Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids.
- No by-products or rendered fats.
- Immune system boosting apple cider vinegar.
- Reasonably priced for a grain-free formula.
- Fish oil can help dogs that have skin issues and sensitivities.

Transition Instructions
A five day transition period is recommended. On the first day, replace 20% of your dog’s food with Health Extension. Continue to replace 20% per day until your dog is just eating Health Extension. A longer transition time can be used if your dog is unusually sensitive to changes in diet.

Feeding Instructions
Always have fresh, clean water available near where your dog eats. While the guidelines above are a good start a dog’s metabolism and activity level can vary a lot based on breed and age. You may need to adjust the amounts listed to maintain a healthy body weight for your dog. Feedings dogs two meals per day may work better for some larger dogs or picky eaters.
The Bottom Line
Health Extension provides a very complex and well thought out blend of meat, fruit, vegetables, vitamins, minerals, probiotics, and dietary supplements from natural sources like kelp and apple cider vinegar. ScoutKnows recommends this formula to pet parent’s that want an affordable grain-free dog food that is fish based rather than the typical chicken or beef.
