What This Article Covers

Our Recommendation

Nulo offers a complete grain free dog food for adults and puppies.  Turkey, chickpeas, and sweet potatoes create a meaty an sweet starchy taste that dogs love.

  • No corn, wheat, or soy.
  • No artificial colors or flavors.
  • Contains salmon oil which can help prevent and treat skin and coat issues like dry or flaky skin or sensitivities. You also get a good dose of Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids.
  • Limited ingredient formula is suitable for sensitive dogs and puppies.
  • Probiotics help keep gut bacteria in good health which means your dog has an easier time digesting food.
  • Vitamins and minerals added to make a complete and balanced ration.

The ingredients are great, but it is also a more expensive brand of dog food, making it a good choice for those that would love to cook for their dog or feed raw but don't have the space and time to do so. It is also a better deal than a prescription based dog food if you have a dog with specific health concerns or sensitivities to the more common animal proteins found in popular dog food.

Transition Instructions

Your dog should be transitioned over 5-7 days unless they are extremely sensitive to food changes or have underlying conditions that can cause sensitivities. If your dog seems to be having a hard time transitioning to any food, consult with your veteranarian.

Feeding Amounts

Weight Daily Feeding (cup)
UP TO 15 LB 1/2 - 1
16 - 25 LBS 1 - 1 1/2
26 - 40 LBS 1 1/2 - 2
41 - 60 LBS 2 - 2 3/4
61 - 80 LBS 2 3/4 - 3 1/4
81 - 100 LBS 3 1/4 - 3 3/4
OVER 100 LBS 3 3/4 + 1/2 cup for each additional 20 lbs

Feeding Instructions

The feeding guidelines above can be adjusted to suit your dog's activity level. Puppies may need as much as double the amount of food shown in the chart. Pregnant and nursing mothers may need 3 times the amount.

Allow puppies at least three opportunities to eat each day. As they get older you can reduce the amount of meal times and increase how much you are feeding each time.

The Bottom Line

Nulo is a brand to consider if you have room in your budget for a premium dog food. The ingredients list is simple and suitable for sensitive dogs and puppies. I recommend keeping an extra bag around if this is to be your standard kibble ration. The 22 lb size is as big as it comes and that much weight doesn't go very far if you have a giant breed dog.

Pet parents really love this dog food and what it has done to improve the health and life of their dog. Nulo goes the extra mile to make sure your dog doesn't get any corn, wheat, soy, fillers, or artificial ingredients.
