Our Recommendation
This is a complete and balanced dog food that offers a lot of nutritional value at a good cost. Wellness goes the extra mile to make sure that even pets with very sensitive stomachs have the option of a high-quality dog food with minimal ingredients.
- No artificial colors or flavors.
- No grains or gluten.
- High level of probiotics in every serving. This helps keep gut flora bacteria at high levels and prevents stomach upsets.
- High-quality turkey is the first ingredient. No paying for cheap fillers as the main ingredient!
- Flaxseed helps encourage good skin and coat condition and can help dogs that have skin allergies.
- No eggs or dairy products.
- A balanced diet of quality protein with veggies that are rich in antioxidants.
Wellness is a brand that Scout has no trouble recommending. This food is formulated for dogs over a year old. Wellness points out that puppies, pregnant dogs, and nursing dogs have special nutritional requirements; for those times, choose one of their puppy formulas.
For those that like to feed limited ingredient cooked or raw diets to their dogs, this is a good choice for times when you cannot cook those meals, like on a long road trip.

Feeding Amounts
Depending on your dog’s size and activity level, they may need more or less food than the recommended measurements in their daily feeding amounts.

106-125 LBS | 4 2/3-5 1/4 |
FOR DOGS OVER 125 LBS | ADD 1/4 CUP PER ADDITIONAL 10 LBS BODY WEIGHT |
Combining With Wet Food
If your dog enjoys a mix of wet and dry you can adjust the amount of dry food according to how much wet you are adding. For every 6 ounces of wet food, reduce the dry amount by 1/3 cup for a healthy portion size.
Transition Instructions
Transition over a period of 7 – 10 days to help avoid digestive upset. Add a limited amount of the new food to the current supply. Each day, increase the amount of the new food while decreasing the amount of the current food.
The Bottom Line
Wellness is a trusted brand that has good quality ingredients and none of the cheap fillers and artificial colors and flavors that can sometimes be hard to avoid in a dog food. The price is reasonable for a specialized diet. If your dog is eating a prescription dog food at the vet for some conditions like allergies, you may want to ask if a Wellness product is an alternative. Thus, you will save some money without compromising quality and nutritional value. Wellness offers three different size bags so you can try it out before committing to a large bag or buy small bags to keep it fresh longer if you have a smaller dog to feed.
