Our Recommendation

When we hear Eukanuba, we automatically associate the name with strong, healthy canines. This is because Eukanuba is one of the leading innovators in manufacturing premium dog food. Eukanuba's philosophy continues to be "dogs are best fed as carnivores". As such,  Eukanuba's high-quality products contain animal-based proteins for healthy coats.

Eukanuba's Adult Maintenance Small Bite Dog Dry Food is catered to adult dogs who are extra small, toy breeds, and small breeds. As we all know, little dogs have smaller mouths and teeth so biting on big kibbles can be uneasy for them at times. With Small Bites, your little one can enjoy every taste of his food.

Upon reading the ingredients, I noticed Eukanuba's main ingredient is authentic, real chicken for protein. In addition, Eukanuba's DentaDefense System reduces tartar built-up in 28 days. This has been scientifically proven.

Eukanuba's kibbles contain essential vitamins and minerals:

  • Antioxidants keep your dog's immune system strong.
  • Calcium for strong, healthy bones.
  • Real chicken builds and maintains lean muscles.
  • Natural, beet-pulp-based fiber and the FOS probiotic enables the absorption of nutrients.

Each year the AAFCO publishes two sets of nutritional minimum standards for dog food intended to help specify if a food is suitable for:

1. Dogs in the growth & reproduction phases of life

Transition Instructions

Once your puppy turns six months old, she can slowly be transitioned to adult kibbles.  Eukanuba recommends you introduce your pup to new food by slowly mixing the new food with the old over a period of four days. Furthermore, Eukanuba suggests you begin the progression as follows:

  • 25% new food to 75% previous food
  • 50% new food to 50% previous food
  • 75% new food to 25% previous food
  • 100% new food

The gradual increase of new food to old will guarantee your dog's digestive system does not get upset. If your little one is finicky about new foods, then add a little bit of warm water to the kibbles to increase the flavor. However, make sure to discard any uneaten food after 20 minutes because it will get soiled.

Feeding Amounts

Weight Daily Feeding (Cup)
____________________ ____________________
3 LBS 3/8 - 1/2
10 LBS 3/4 - 1
20 LBS 1 1/4 - 1 1/2
30 LBS 1 3/4 - 2
40 LBS 2 - 2 1/4
50 LBS 2 1/4 - 2 3/4

Feeding Instructions

Follow the feeding chart on the bag and implement a feeding routine. Using the same bowl, feed your pup at the same time each day. Having a constant steady schedule ensures stability and conditions your canine to a daily routine. However, it is important you don't interrupt the feeding schedule abruptly or it may upset your canine's diet and behavior.

I recommend asking your vet first when making any change to your pup's diet. In addition, make sure you always have plenty of fresh and clean water for your little one.

The Bottom Line

Eukanuba Small Bites Adult Dry Dog Food is made with nutrition-based formula. Small breeds are hyper and full of energy which means the food must keep up with their metabolism. Small Bites' chicken formula is full of protein, Omega fatty acids, probiotics and antioxidants which provide lean muscle mass, and strong body conditioning.

With only high-quality animal proteins, chicken, egg, lamb, and fish as a primary source of protein, Eukanuba Small Bites seems to be a good choice for your little dog. Your pup will savor each bite. It's worth noting that corn meal as the second ingredient is worrisome, but there are other high-quality ingredients that offset this.

If you have an extra small, toy breed or small breed, then Eukanuba Small Bites Adult Dry Dog Food may be a good choice for your furry one.
